In Revelation 19:10 the apostle John declared that the “spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus.” New Testament prophecy has a very different thrust than does Old Testament prophecy.
In the Old Testament, the prophetic focus was on calling God’s people back to faithfulness in the Law (the Old Covenant). In the New Testament, the prophetic focus is instead on calling God’s people to faithfulness within the New Covenant of Grace.
Prophecy in the New Testament is aimed at drawing attention to Jesus, and what He has done for us.
The prophetic emphasis today is on mercy, not judgment.
